I was finally able to get out tonight for my nature meditation. It’s been so incredibly hot recently I decided to wait for nightfall. I choose my backyard as my nature spot since it’s right out my backdoor and has the river and open space right behind it. Most of the noise of the world is blocked out by the thick cottonwoods or stand of pine trees.
The River is no longer as high as it was and has slowed in speed allowing for many small critters to gather, including singing frogs and many small duck families as well as deer with the occasional fox….but also mosquitoes which helped me practice body awareness during my meditation.
There was a neighbor standing in the river as I walked by lazily practicing his casting. My bare feet felt the already crunchy July grass under my feet. I smelled the river and greenery on the wind, along with some campfire smoke.
I lay a towel down so that I may sit on my Zafu cushion and not get it dirty. I set my meditation timer and sit for 10 minutes. I tried to listen to a guided meditation but the mosquitoes kept reminding me of the now and so I took off my headphones and opened my eyes. The river was soft and lazy and dusk was beginning to gather. I took in the tall weeds across the bank from me and saw a feminine reflection in the water. A saw log cast shadows in the quite waters that looked a bit like woman kneeling at the river. A mother duck and her 7 ducklings swam by, riding the current peacefully past.
I ended my meditation in gratitude after the sun set. The moon was not yet over the eastern mountains but showing the glow as I headed back into the house. The evening stars were peeking out of the cottonwood branches as the songbirds settled down.
A quite Sunday evening in Utah.
I drew the 3 of Pentacles for my Omen for the upcoming week. This card is one of increase, craft, skill and appreciation. My work will flourish and I will get a chance to see my hard work be recognized. Combining the gift of Awen with your own unique genius and abilities presents a space in which you can fully devote yourself to improving these skills.
I thinking this pertains especially to my mundane work as well as the ability I will have to return to school soon. I received wonderful news that BCMT opened again and will be in full operation soon. So I can attend the school I’ve dreamed about and fully devote myself to excellence. Here I will learn skills of true craftsmanship and I know my mastery will enrich the lives of others. For these gifts I am grateful!
