6 minute breathe meditation. As part of my nature awareness meditation and work I’d like to talk about the town I live in. The town of Logan was founded in 1859 by Mormon settlers sent by Brigham Young to survey for the site of a fort near the banks of the Logan River. They named their new community Logan for Ephraim Logan, an early fur trapper in the area.Even though it’s grown recently Logan is still an very not exciting, small town but it is nestled into the most beautiful mountains around. Logan is what is called a “Tree City” supported by the Arbor Day Foundation for 28 years. The Tree City program focuses on Urban Forestry and education. This means that there are a lot of trees downtown and in the surrounding areas. The Utah State University campus is beautiful and supports a strong Environmental program. It is also a Tree Campus, although the Norway Maples, with an expected lifespan of 60-80 years are dying. They were planted around 1930 and will be replaced with “Bloodgood” London Plane trees. The Bloodgood London Plane Tree was selected because of its proven disease resistance. The committee considered the planting of multiple tree species to reduce the possibility of disease but ultimately it decided that the uniformity of a single tree species was critical to the character of the Quad.

I’ve been meaning to walk to work for almost a week now and finally got to. It’s only about 10-15 minute walk and really thru a pretty part of town. Nature is most surely all around us, even in “downtown” Of course on my route to work I pass 3 parks, an open space and a large historic grounds before crossing Main Street to my job. Below is a Slideshow of just what I saw today on my way in…
I really enjoy walking to work. I’ve been told it makes me noticeably happier. V said that it makes sense I like to walk because I like to experience and be connected to the world around me and that’s all I really desire is to feel the connection again. To feel apart of it all, not isolated .
The Omen I drew today was the 5 of Wands. It signifies playful yet meaningful competition. I should be aware and mindful that play does not hurt others around me.
